The Emma Dent Collection

Emma Dent, the Victorian chatelaine of Sudeley Castle (1856-1900) was a prolific letter-writer and avid collector. This exhibition of her private memorabilia provides both an insight into her own interests and displays a record of her life and times.

The Collection ranges from needlework and jewellery to a remarkable autograph compilation, which includes many of the authors, artists and statesmen of her day including examples from Charles Dickens, Florence Nightingale and Sir Charles Darwin.

Also on show are the many lovely and curious objects which she gathered on her travels across Europe, while illustrative snapshots and passages from her diaries give insight into her days at Sudeley and her wider interests.

‘The Lady of Sudeley’, Emma’s life story, and a book of extracts from her Diaries are both on sale in the Visitor Centre.
