The Herb Garden Walk

The Healing garden comprises six garden beds each one focussing on a different aspect of herb use.  The themes are:

The Tudor Physic Garden
This garden focuses on the plants which were used to create medicines and cures during the Tudor period.

Native Medicinal Herbs
This garden contains wild plants with both nutritional and healing properties, these properties and the knowledge of how to use them were well known to our ancestors, and are now being rediscovered.

Poisonous Plants and Drugs
The power of plants is demonstrated by their ability to not only poison and kill but also to cure. Many important therapeutic drugs – for example digitalis from the foxglove – are extracted from the plant even though foxgloves themselves are poisonous.

Calming Herbs
Calming Herbs are more relevant today than perhaps at any other time in our history. And in this garden, herbs which can help to relieve stress and anxiety can be found.

The Doctrine of the Signatures
The ancient plant lore that ‘like cures like’ dates back beyond the Middle Ages and draws on the belief that plants are marked with a divine sign indicating their purpose.

The Scented Garden
The Scented Garden is planted to perfume the air and stimulate our sense of smell. Spend time luxuriating in its fragrance.
