The Queens

So named because four of England’s Queens have walked here – Queen Katherine Parr, Queen Anne Boleyn, Lady Jane Grey and Queen Elizabeth 1.

Sited on the original Tudor parterre, the formal garden was replanted to a design by Jane Fearnley-Whittingstall and is flanked by magnificent Yew trees planted by Emma Dent exactly 150 years ago this year. The Queens’ garden is best known for its stunning display of roses (over 70 varieties) which reach their peak in June, when the garden is ablaze with colour and heavy with scent.
