St. Mary’s Church was restored between 1855 and its rededication in 1863 by the Dent family, after being sat in ruins as a result of the Civil War.
Queen Katherine Parr lies entombed in the church, the only English queen to be buried on private land.
During the open season monthly Evensong services are held in St Mary’s Church at 3:30pm. The dates for the 2016 season are as follows:
The Church will be closed for private functions on selected dates – please check at the Visitor Centre for any restrictions during your visit. Please note that Katherine Parr’s tomb will not be accessible during these times.
